The minimal budget on this one shows now and then, but it’s easy to put that to one side on low budget horror if the budget goes to the right things. Here, it mostly does. Locations are pretty good, effects are alright, cast are decent enough. Unfortunately, the script is awful, direction and editing lacklustre at best. There’s just no pace, no tension, nothing. It managed to be boring, feeling like a 45 minute TV episode stretched out way too long. Oh well. Next?

Yes everyone has criticised this movie. I watched this in the cinema and I had the same feeling as I did when I played the original game on PlayStation. Especially when they hit the mansion, it’s great and yes it’s their own take on it with the same location and characters. I think people expect too much to be like the games. It’s great 👍🏻

More of a re-imagination. Great atmosphere and pacing.

People giving 1 star are being way too critical, however people giving 4 or 5 stars are being delusional. If I could give 2 and a half I would. Some things it does very well, while other things are executed quite badly. Definitely feels like a resident evil film and while not all the decisions around the narrative are good ones, it still takes enough creative license to feel unique from the source material. I enjoyed it enough as a fan of the franchise and it hopefully lessons will be learned from when a resident evil film is inevitably tried again.
  • True to the game

Ok, this is not the Milla Jovovich bug hunt that the movies morphed into, but as a true fan of the games this was a delight. This is the game brought to the big screen as it should have been. The recreation of the police station and other locations straight from the game were a joy to watch. An excellent Saturday evening’s viewing.

Been following resident evil since it’s release on PlayStation one. I generally really like the movies- the older the better- but this is just so pants! It’s slow! Like slower than a snail slow! Please save your time and money! I rented for £1.99 and feel like I paid £1.98 too much!

The story is there from the games, but they’ve completely muddled everything up, maybe that was to keep the story fresh and original, but I can’t help questioning most of the decisions they made making this film. The actors don’t look or even feel like they were in the game, they share the same name and some of them have some similar features, but that’s as far as it goes. I feel like they got completely confused on whether they wanted to stick to the games or tell their own story, it all seems like such a mess. All of the questions I have about this film make me wonder whether they would have been better off just making an original story with original characters instead.
