Description

Widely acknowledged as a true cult classic of modern American cinema, Heathers has captured the imaginations of troubled teenagers the world over with its acerbic satire of the sugar-coated high school movies of the 1980s... At Westerburg High School, an elite clique of snobby girls known as Heathers reign supreme. Smart and popular, Veronica (Winona Ryder, Stranger Things) is a reluctant member of the gang and disapproves of the other girls' cruel behaviour. When Veronica and her mysterious new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater, True Romance), play a trick on the clique leader, Heather Chandler (Kim Walker), and accidentally poison her, they make it appear a suicide. But it soon becomes clear to Veronica that J.D. is a sociopath intent on vengefully killing the school's popular students. She races to stop J.D., clashing with the clique's new leader, Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), and leading to an explosive final confrontation with her troubled former lover. Directed by Michael Lehmann, Heathers pushed the teen comedy into dark and nightmarish territory and is distinguished by the career defining central performances of its stars Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

30 years ago, I am sure this film was quite edgy and brave. I am sure that people who saw it back then got an immense enjoyment out of the black comedy and daring concept but watching it for the first time now just highlights how far the world has changed since the late 1980’s. The editing was all over the place with several continuity errors, the bits that are supposed to be shocking simply aren’t any more and the bits that are supposed to be funny also aren’t. All in all the film just feels like it never really gets started. If however you loved the film back in the late 80s / early 90s and wish to re-live the feeling you had then, I am sure it will still be fine but if you are new to this film, then it’s probably better to skip it.

This beats the crap outta so many movies that followed years later in the same vein. Why go for a second rate version go for the real deal.

This is a must watch for anybody who loves to laugh at the inappropriate. Excellent performances all round and a film that is pretty much perfect from start to finish. It is just so ......”How Very”. And it’s impossible to not love the numerous classic one liners from.....”Jealous much” through to “Pate...” all the way to “Veronica, why are you pulling my dick”😂

Heather's is one of my all time favourites. I remember watching and laughing at almost every line the last time I watched it. The humour is so layered and darkly satirical, even the repetitive interactions with her parents crack me up. Pate? It birthed a million and one quotes, creating its own language - much like Cluesless would do years later - and though the styling makes it easy to date, I love this era, and will gladly dive back in.
