  • Probably my fave sci-fi film

A lot of reviews comparing this to Arrival when it has nothing to do with Arrival. Admittedly I came to this as a fan of the book, but it does an incredible job of adapting it. Love it to bits.
  • A different kind of sc-fi movie

This is a beautifully shot film, well acted by all. Interesting story, and enough mystery to keep you on your toes.

At one point I was so bored, I prayed for Jesus to take me home.

  • Dull and Predictable

Badly acted and very derivative. I don’t understand the point of making an Unusual Suspects meets Alien meets The Thing. Don’t buy it. And why did they bother with the twist at the end?!!!!
  • Poor.

An poor attempt to make an intellectual sci-fi movie. Not in the same league as Arrival. Even Solaris did it better and that wasn’t a great film. The only top quality actor in this film is Oscar Isaacs.
  • Bad science in Arrival, Alien and Under the Skin Mashup

If you have a science background you may be annoyed by the many basic errors in the screenplay. Most egregious: in an early scene, Portman (a professor of medicine!) describes all life as springing from the division of cells (what about viruses?). Tonally the film seems to be trying to ape Arrival with elements of Alien body horror (and set design) and Under the Skin. The SFX were pretty low budget for 2018 with the animation of the animals being way below the standard we have come to expect.
  • Ponderous, rent don’t buy.

It’s not got the pace to keep you wanting to stay glued to the screen or fascinated to see the reveal of the mystery. Worth a watch if you enjoy a sci-fi movie but this is not going to be a highly regarded future classic - kills some time but leaves little impression or after thought and warrants only a watch once. Borrows too heavily from other movie concepts but adds little originality.
  • Thank You 🙂👍🏻
