The only remotely good bits are in the trailer. Watch that and console yourself in the knowledge that nothing else remotely worth watching happens…
  • If you read the book, avoid the film

We hadn’t read the book, and so really enjoyed the film as we came to it without any weight of expectation. If you read the books, trust other reviews and avoid the movie.

This is an odd one. When I first heard of the Dark Tower it was the film, and it had terrible reviews so I avoided it. I did however read the books which were great. Without giving away the end of of the books, it's worth noting that this film is not an attempt to cram the Dark Tower books into one film, that's a mistake that'll leave you disappointed. This film is the story of Roland and Jake AFTER the final chapter with Roland in the book. The film does have a lot of nods to the books. The spider, Steven King reference etc which is fun, though obviously there's oceans of stuff in the books that you might want to see. I think a decreped BLAINE was in there briefly. Idris is always great, but he film ot a lot of flak about the lack of emotion, which suggests an unfamilliarity witht the source material. It's a good watch, and if you read the books and want to know what happened after that.... well this film tells you.
  • So Disappointing

Dire, absolute disservice to the original books, storyline and characters. Dreadful adaptation and poorly written script.
  • Ridiculous price

Itunes pricing is seriously bad. For some stupid reason the price here has shot back up to £13.99, whereas every where else it has gotten cheaper in the usual fashion. On Amazon its selling for 5.49, down from 8.99. Amazon is kicking iTunes in every way. Unless theres a change i'm jumping ship soon.
  • Not great, script is poor.

Great special effects, less than average script.

I’m sure that fans of the book series hate this film. Most book fans do, but if you’ve not read the books this is a pretty good film.
  • Disappointing adaptation.

You don’t expect much from a book adaptation that takes seven books (each longer than the last) and condenses it into a 95 minute movie but this film was even worse than I expected. The plot made very little sense, the main villains motives were bland and the main character (who tried hard to put complexity into an under developed role) was dull. Not sure how a book series by a seminal horror writer ends up as a film with such a low certificate score either? Avoid.
  • Zero plot

I read a few of the reviews first but thought i'd give it ago as they were a pretty mixed bag, but it's fair to say its 2 stars max, I still have no idea what on earth was going on. There's no real plot around the dark tower or what the heck is going on. Okay for background noise if you want to fill the void but otherwise i'd steer clear and find something else.
