While investigating a dangerous criminal, Major makes a shocking discovery – the corporation that created her lied about her past life in order to control her. Unsure what to believe, Major will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery of her true identity and exact revenge against the corporation she was built to serve.

Maybe we did not get it - but slow, boring and overly tedious - not for us, not well acted, poor story - well very little story atall ! Struggled to sit through it to be honest - paid so we suffered it - 2 hours of my life I wont get back - and 5 quit ... ha ha

A fabulous movie in its own right. Scarlett Johansson was wonderful as the Major. I had my fears when the live version was announced as I love the animation but all my fears were allayed once I watched the movie. Well done and thank you for doing such a good job. Love it, ignore the negative reviews. Hope there will be a sequel.

Beautifully designed and written. I love the characters, especially Major (SJ) and Batou, and the relationship between them. The storyline is very well done, with very human characters (despite the robotic upgrades they have). It is a character driven story with a lot of heart, which is so often missed in very computer generated films. As somebody who wasn’t a previous fan of GinS, I initially found the world a bit much. The city is almost overwhelmingly futuristic and different, and as a newbie, I wondered if it was aimed solely at fans. Second time around I understood the world, appreciated the design, and found the world beautiful and not too busy or complex.

Somehow, watching this made the 1995 anime make more sense to me. Harmless, spectacular popcorn.

It’s a good film but when compared to the original animé it’s shown up as a pale imitation. It isn’t as memorable and the themes aren’t explored quite as deeply. If you like SciFi you’ll enjoy it but you won’t feel much need to revisit it like you might the original.

This is not the film or series at all . I am a huge fan of the anime film and series. The construction of this film is basically taking the names and concept and even title and making up a whole new story. If your a fan of the original anime like me you’ll be very annoyed with this film. If you’ve never seen any ghost in the shell anime this film is ok but the story is disjointed and you don’t feel for any of the characters. 3/5 for a stand alone film 0/5 for a remake of the anime they left out the standard issue big gun bit that’s worth one star on its own. Buy the original much better and actually refers to the ghost in the shell like its meant to.

I'm not an anime fan, so I'd never heard of this & I nearly didn't watch it because of that. I'm really pleased I rented this tho, it really is visually stunning & a good sci-fi storyline too. SJ pulls of a very complex character with grace, and an almost otherworldliness that is at times highlighted by her fluidly robotic walk. Overall definitely worth watching. A multi layered sci-fi thriller.
