Description

Restored to mark the film's 40th anniversary. Thomas Jerome Newton (David Bowie) is a humanoid alien who comes to Earth from a distant planet on a mission to take water back to his home planet in the midst of a catastrophic drought. Featuring a startling and era-defining lead performance from David Bowie in his debut feature role, and based on the cult novel by Walter Tevis, The Man Who Fell to Earth endures, not only as a bitingly caustic indictment of the modern world, but also as a poignant commentary on the loneliness of the outsider.

  • Great film if your in that zone - not in 4K here?

The 2016 release is available in 4K HDR on Blu-ray but not on iTunes? Why not? Shame! It’s and acquired taste, I love it! But it’s about post-Bowie’s image & the vide of the era, which I lived through. Otherwise it’s a good film of the period & if you like or love SiFi you’ve got to watch it.
  • A genuine classic

Made at a time when films were made to challenge their audiences. This is film as it should be.
  • Thought provoking, disturbing, mesmerising.

This is an astonishing film. People familiar with The director Nic Roeg's style will know what to expect. There are some beautiful and very clever pieces of cinema here. Bowie playing an alien and unable to sing to hymns in a church! The alien Thomas Jerome Newton walking into a patent office and presenting parents from his planet that will make him wealthy enough to fund a space mission to save his dying planet. The dialog is incredible. "I am not a scientist, but I know that all things begin and end in eternity" as the alien tells Nathan Bryce, the scientist he hires to build the rocket. The film is about the fall of man, the loneliness within each and every one of us, the suspicion by people of anyone who is different and the destructive nature of human kind. It is about the dangers of alcohol, love and betrayal. The use of music is phenomenal. You have Holst planet suite one moment, whale sounds the next, then Blueberry Hill by Louis Armstrong. You could just enjoy the movie for the soundtrack. The costumes are fantastic. Bowie looks ethereal and alien, but is very believable. The film even jumps back in time at one point as the alien appears to be able to see the past, and the people he sees also see this huge Cadillac pulling up in front of them. You have to admire Nic Roeg for adding this nice touch as it was not in the original book by Walter Tevis. I could write a book about this movie.

ITunes will drop the price as soon as (or a week after) you buy it!!! So if you are really desperate to have this, (we all have different tastes after all) save yourself a few pennies and wait for the £7.99 price.
