Description

In a secluded valley in Iceland, brothers Gummi and Kiddi live side by side, tending to their prized ancestral line of sheep. But a long-term grudge means that they haven’t spoken to each other for four decades, passing messages via the sheep dog. When a lethal ovine disease suddenly appears in the valley, the authorities move in to cull all of the livestock. But Gummi and Kiddi don’t give up easily and each brother tries to stave off the disaster in his own fashion: Kiddi by using his rifle, and Gummi by using his wits. As the authorities close in the brothers will need to come together to save the sheep - and themselves - from extinction.

  • It’s great, just not a comedy!

This is a great movie, beautiful, moving, compelling, but it is not a comedy. Be aware.

I’m not sure how it’s billed as a comedy. This is a subtle and moving drama about the effects of disaster on a rural community, especially two brothers who fell out 40 years ago. Gorgeous cinematography, subtle acting throughout and a very open ending. Well worth a watch. But don’t expect a comedy!

Best Ram based movie I’ve ever seen. Touching, funny, and compellingly human.

This was my favourite film at Cannes last May. Beautifully shot, bittersweet and very odd. It’s an arthouse film, for sure - lots of very long shots where it seems like nothing much happens - but it’s all there, under the surface for anyone willing to give it their attention. It’s hugely rewarding and very moving. Gorgeous.
