Description

Hedonist Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) thinks he has reached the limits of earthly pleasure. But a mysterious puzzle box will take him further than he can possibly imagine, opening the doors to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible and summoning the Cenobites, whose experiments in the higher reaches of experience will tear his soul apart. When he manages to escape, Frank returns to the world skinless and in need of help. Now his former lover Julia (Clare Higgins) must kill to make him whole again. But the Cenobites want Frank back, and there'll be hell to pay when they find him.

A classic horror movie for sure but I pre-ordered this a couple of weeks back as it was priced well and since it’s release on Monday I’m unable to watch it for some reason? There’s still a rent option available but the buy option isn’t there anymore (presumably because I’ve bought it already) and I can’t watch it? Can someone please help?????

Released in the 80s along side a famous burnt child killer! Hellraiser was a nice surprise when I originally saw it on release and in my opinion still holds up well along side Hellraiser 2! It’s likely not to hold up to first time viewers especially as the effects do look a little dated but along with Hellraiser 2 are underrated gems! I do hope both get a 4K update at some point!
  • Poor effects, story and acting. This film has not aged well.

I completely agree with the review left by ‘Mrtomgreen’ because I too was expecting more, but I was left feeling underwhelmed with the acting, the story and most of the special effects. I never saw this film when it first came out, and to be honest, I am glad, as I don’t believe I missed anything. I just wish I had not wasted my time watching this poorly acted film. The only thing I am glad about, is that I only paid £2.99 for it, but that was still £2.99 too much. If you really want to see this film, my advice would be to watch it on Netflix first, and then decide if you want to buy it.

Considering it’s ‘classic’ status so many have given it I was expecting more. Maybe it was back in its day to an underage audience but it’s not aged well. Terrible film that unfortunately you have to watch in order to tick it off that ‘classics’ list but wait till it’s on sale.
  • Great transfer

This is a great HD picture transfer from Arrow. The movie itself still holds up for me . The resurrection scene is still spine tingling .

A classic. An intelligent, thought provoking horror film and very gothic which I love. Clive Barker is the man, and better than Stephen King in my opinion. Hellraiser 2 is fantastic too, possibly even better than the first! 3 is passable for a bit of backstory on Pinhead, the rest are rubbish!
